See your everyday life from a different angle and you may realize that it is not that boring after all. Like the importance of positioning your camera in different angles to get interesting shots, you have to look at your life from different points of view too. Watch yourself from the outside and you can see how your everyday actions will become strange to you all of a sudden. Sometimes you do certain things without even realizing it and then when you look at it, you are surprised. This happens to me quite a lot.
Like the the other day when I was walking along the streets. It was a nice day and I was apparently in a good mood. However, all of a sudden a catchy song pops up on my mind and I was humming and whistling along. When I stopped at the traffic lights there was an old lady standing besides me, waiting for the traffic lights to switch to green. First I didn’t really notice her or paying attention or whatsoever and just standing there waiting for the lights. Then suddenly I noticed that she stares at me and I wondered why she did that. Well, it turns out that I was apparently singing out loud the lyrics to the song I had on my mind when I was standing there waiting for the lights. I wasn’t aware of it at all. The old lady just looked at me weirdly and walked on as the lights turn green. After I realized what was going on I just smiled and laughed at myself. I thought it was funny because I never sang out loud in public before. Well, at least not consciously.
It’s funny how a regular thing like waiting for the traffic light can be surprising when you pay attention to yourself and are conscious of your doing. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an old lady or someone else to remind you of your actions. Sometimes you caught yourself doing random stuff all the time without noticing it. Like when you are talking on the phone you might catch yourself playing around with a pen, drawing a picture or something else that just happens unconsciously. Or when you are watching a movie, you might just keep snacking and snacking until you are full and you don’t know how that happened.
I think this unconscious consciousness is really fascinating. I believe that the unconscious doing is your true self. It shows your character in an “non-manipulated” way. You don’t influence it with your thinking and control it to fit in the “supposed” right way. You just do.
